We dove into the poultry world with chicks in the spring of 2020 - yep pandemic birds. And we all fell in love with our tiny dinosaurs, who knew!? We raise heritage breeds to get a variety of colors in our eggs and a deeper flavor to our meat birds. Our meat birds start off inside, nice and cozy warm until they are fully feathered and ready for their "chicken tractors" to move around the yard while also protected from predators.
In 2021 we thought it would be fun to raise a couple of turkeys as well and again, who knew - we loved it! Our first 5 turkeys were all hybrids, designed for meat while also being colorful birds. Our daughters took them to the county fair to learn more about showing poultry and exposing more people to the world of turkeys. We continue to grow and try different breeds each year, but we may have found our favorite in a midget white hybrid, a smaller broad-breasted turkey.
